About StowGauge
Practical storage planning before you compare listings
StowGauge is a free planning tool for people who need a useful storage-unit starting point without entering an address, requesting a quote, or creating an account.
How the planner works
The calculator starts with a household-size estimate, then adjusts it for furnishing level, common bulky items, sealed moving boxes, a packing buffer, and an optional access aisle. It compares that estimate against common unit capacities from 5 x 5 through 10 x 30.
These inputs are intentionally simple. A useful first decision is usually not a perfect inventory model; it is knowing whether you should begin comparing a 5 x 10, 10 x 10, or 10 x 15 rather than calling every listing from scratch.
What StowGauge does not claim
- It does not know the interior shape, height, door size, availability, or condition of a particular provider's unit.
- It does not provide reservations, prices, provider recommendations, or a guarantee that a particular item will fit.
- It does not replace measuring your longest item and checking the access route to the actual unit.
That boundary is deliberate. Storage labels are not standardized enough for a generic tool to promise a physical fit.
Privacy and advertising
The planner runs in your browser and does not require an account. When you create a share link, the selected planner values are put in the URL so another person can reopen the same estimate; do not put personal information in those fields.
StowGauge uses Google advertising services. Read the privacy notice for the current description of that processing and browser controls.
