What fits in a 10 x 15 storage unit?

A 10 x 15 unit has 150 square feet of floor area. It is a useful comparison when a 10 x 10 looks crowded, a two-bedroom move has ordinary furniture, or you need room to reach stored belongings.

Place large pieces along the sides or rear, then assign a stable zone for labeled boxes. A 10-foot width leaves more flexibility than a 5-foot unit, while the extra depth can preserve a central path. The goal is not to fill every inch; it is to keep the load stable and make the items you need possible to reach.

A 10 x 15 can still be too small for a household with several rooms of dense furniture, garage equipment, or a large box count. When the main issue is raw volume rather than access, compare a 10 x 20 unit before committing to a tight plan.

Confirm dimensions and build a realistic loading order

  1. Ask for actual usable dimensions, unit height, door opening, and any interior obstruction.
  2. Measure awkward furniture and confirm it can clear both the door and the loading route.
  3. Load rarely used heavy pieces at the back, with fragile and frequently needed items closer to the front.
  4. Keep a written or photographed map of the unit when different people may retrieve boxes later.
